Mount Shasta Summit Ascent via the West Face - 3 Days
Alternate to Avalanche Gulch
3 days / 2 night / Cost: $775.00
Our 3-day Guided Summit climb of Mt. Shasta West Face Route. Shasta's West Face is one of the less crowded south-side routes on Mt. Shasta. An excellent climb for those wanting to climb a more challenging, yet scenic route from Mt. Shasta’s bunny flat (south side) trailhead. Mt. Shasta west face is best climbed in late spring to early summer when there is plenty of snow to cover the approach and upper mountain, but some years it is climbable well into August, look for additional dates. Join SWS Mountain Guides for an excellent, challenging & scenic climb up Mt. Shasta’s West Face.
Itinerary: After meeting at 8:00 am on the first day at our Mount Shasta office, we will conduct a complete pack check and divide up the group gear. We will then carpool to the trailhead at Bunny Flat (6,860 feet) on Mount Shasta's south side. From here we will hike over the lower part of Casaval Ridge and descend to our high camp in Cascade Valley at the base of Mt. Shasta's West Face. The afternoon will be spent acclimatizing and reviewing the use ice ax, crampons, and rope team travel. We will then retire early in preparation for an alpine start on summit day (up by 1-2:00 am). After arriving at the summit, we will descend the West Face to our high camp for the night. Next day we will pack up our gear and return to Bunny Flat by 3-4:00 pm.
