via Avalanche Gulch - 2 Days
2 days / 1 night / Cost: $725.00
Our most popular guided ascent to the summit of Mount Shasta is via Mt. Shasta’s Avalanche Gulch route. This course is a two-day guided ascent with professional instruction in ice ax and crampon use including ice ax self-arrest. Depending on time constraints we may also briefly touch on the basics of route finding, mountain sense, and mountain safety. Our climb is for anyone who has a desire to learn the skills necessary to ascend Mt. Shasta safely and wishes to explore the world of alpine mountaineering with a professional guide while climbing the most popular and direct route to the summit of Mt. Shasta via the spectacular Avalanche Gulch route.
Itinerary: After meeting at 8:00 am on the first day at our Mount Shasta office, we will conduct a complete pack check and divide up the group gear. We will then carpool to the trailhead at Bunny Flat (6,860 feet) on Mount Shasta's south side. From here we will hike up to our high-camp in Avalanche Gulch at approximately 10,000 ft. The afternoon will be spent acclimatizing and learning the use of ice ax, crampons, and rope team travel. We will then retire early in preparation for an alpine start on summit day (up by 1-2:00 am). After arriving at the summit, we will descend back to our high camp for a quick rest and pack up our gear returning to Bunny Flat by 5-6:00 pm. PLEASE NOTE - This is a best-case scenario. This itinerary is subject to change at the guide’s discretion and is dependent upon mountain conditions, group experience/expectations, and other factors we cannot anticipate. Book Now!
